Specialist Areas – Professional Focus
With over 31 years of experience in primary education and several years of private tutoring, I specialise in helping students build confidence, develop effective learning habits, and achieve their academic goals. I provide tailored support in Mathematics, English, and Science for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students, alongside GCSE Mathematics tuition and 11+ preparation.
A key focus of my work is identifying the teaching approaches that best suit each individual learner. Every student is different, and I draw upon a wide range of strategies developed throughout my teaching career to find methods that engage, motivate, and support progress. Whether a student requires help strengthening core skills, preparing for examinations, or overcoming barriers to learning, I work patiently and systematically to help them move forward with confidence.
I have extensive experience supporting students with special educational needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and I understand the importance of adapting lessons to suit different learning styles and personal circumstances. My approach combines clear explanations, encouragement, and realistic goal-setting to help students feel capable and successful.
Above all, I believe that academic achievement is built on confidence and self-belief. By creating a supportive and positive learning environment, I aim to help every student recognise their strengths, develop resilience, and reach their full potential.
About Stephen
I am an experienced and enthusiastic educator who has spent more than three decades working across a variety of primary school settings. Throughout my career, I have taught and supported children with diverse abilities, backgrounds, and learning needs, giving me a broad understanding of how to help young people thrive both academically and personally.
My teaching philosophy is centred on the belief that children learn best when they feel valued, supported, and encouraged. Building strong relationships with students is something I consider essential, as confidence and trust often form the foundation for successful learning. I take pride in creating a calm, positive atmosphere where students are comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and challenging themselves.
Alongside strong numeracy and literacy skills, I bring practical problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a genuine curiosity about the world that helps make learning engaging and relevant. I am known for being adaptable, approachable, and patient, qualities that allow me to connect with a wide range of learners.
Helping students grow in confidence, develop independence, and experience success is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work, and I am committed to supporting each learner on their individual educational journey.
