Specialist Areas – Professional Focus

I am an experienced and adaptable educator with a broad teaching background across primary education, specialist music tuition, and English language teaching. Alongside my work as a primary supply teacher, I have spent many years helping children develop confidence, resilience, and a genuine enjoyment of learning.

Music has been a central focus throughout my career. I am a specialist music teacher and have taught cello, piano, and recorder to learners of all ages and abilities. I believe music develops creativity, discipline, and self-confidence, and I enjoy tailoring lessons to suit each student’s individual learning style and goals.

I also have extensive experience teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL), both in the UK and overseas. Working with learners from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds has strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching, build positive relationships, and make learning accessible and engaging.

Within primary education, I have taught numeracy and literacy up to and including Key Stage 2, as well as the full primary curriculum. My classroom experience enables me to identify gaps in understanding, provide targeted support, and help pupils make meaningful progress. Whether working with children who need to build confidence, catch up on missed learning, or extend their understanding, I aim to create a supportive environment where they feel encouraged to ask questions and celebrate their achievements.

My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and personalised. I believe every child can succeed when lessons are carefully adapted to their needs, interests, and pace of learning. My goal is not only to improve academic outcomes but also to foster confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

About Belinda

Teaching and supporting young people has been at the heart of my working life for many years. Alongside my work as a teacher and tutor, I also work within the NHS in secondary mental health, supporting young people with complex emotional needs. Over the past decade I have developed a particular interest in mindfulness and wellbeing, and in 2018 I wrote a mindfulness course which I continue to deliver as part of my NHS role. This experience has strengthened my understanding of how emotional wellbeing, confidence and learning are closely connected, and it has shaped the calm, patient and compassionate approach I bring to every lesson.

Music is another lifelong passion. I perform professionally as a cellist, pianist and recorder player, and I love sharing the enjoyment and discipline that music brings. Whether teaching music or supporting children with academic subjects, I enjoy helping learners discover their strengths and develop confidence in their own abilities.

I believe every child learns differently, so I take time to understand each pupil as an individual and adapt my teaching to suit their needs, interests and learning style. My aim is to create a relaxed, encouraging environment where children feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes and celebrate their progress. Seeing a child grow in confidence and realise what they are capable of is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

I look forward to working in partnership with families to help children achieve their goals, develop resilience and enjoy learning.
