English and Maths Tutor (Primary)

I am an experienced educator with over 27 years’ experience supporting learners to build confidence, overcome barriers and achieve their full potential. My passion is helping children develop strong foundations in English and Maths through engaging, supportive and personalised learning.

I specialise in primary English and Maths, helping pupils strengthen core skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, comprehension, number, calculation and problem solving. I believe every child can succeed when learning is tailored to their individual needs, interests and learning style.

Throughout my career I have worked with learners of all ages and abilities, including pupils who lack confidence, have additional learning needs, English as an additional language, or require extra support to reach age-related expectations. I create a positive learning environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and celebrating progress.

My teaching approach focuses on developing understanding rather than rote learning. I use practical activities, real-life examples and targeted questioning to help learners become independent, resilient and confident thinkers. I am particularly skilled at breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps and helping learners build skills gradually through encouragement and structured practice.

As a parent myself, I understand the importance of communication between tutor, child and family. I work closely with parents to ensure learning is meaningful, enjoyable and linked to each child’s goals.

Alongside my work in education, I have extensive experience using technology to support learning and create engaging resources. My aim is not only to improve attainment but also to develop confidence, curiosity and a positive attitude towards learning.

I specialise in providing tailored educational support to children and young people aged 1–18, with particular experience in SEN, one-to-one tuition and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). I have supported pupils with communication, behaviour, independence, handwriting, speech and academic development, adapting my approach to suit each learner’s individual needs, ability and learning style. My teaching experience also includes classroom support, cover teaching, HLTA and teaching assistant roles across secondary schools. I have delivered and supported subjects including Science, English and French, provided targeted interventions, supported pupils with EAL, and managed challenging behaviour while maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment. My Biomedical Science degree from King’s College London gives me a strong scientific background, making Science a particular area of confidence. I focus on building students’ confidence, helping them understand difficult concepts clearly and creating lessons that are engaging, structured and adapted to individual needs.

I focus on trying to make STEM principles simple to understand and to make mathematics interesting by showing how it can be applied in real world technical & engineering situations.

I specialise in supporting children across Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, providing expert tuition across the full primary curriculum. My key areas include English, with a particular focus on reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar; mathematics; science; and all other core primary subjects. I also have extensive experience providing targeted preparation for the 11+ and private school entrance examinations, helping pupils develop the academic knowledge, exam techniques, confidence and independent learning skills needed to achieve their full potential.

I primarily cover UKS2 maths however, I can also provide support in reading and writing.

With over 31 years of experience in primary education and several years of private tutoring, I specialise in helping students build confidence, develop effective learning habits, and achieve their academic goals. I provide tailored support in Mathematics, English, and Science for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students, alongside GCSE Mathematics tuition and 11+ preparation.

A key focus of my work is identifying the teaching approaches that best suit each individual learner. Every student is different, and I draw upon a wide range of strategies developed throughout my teaching career to find methods that engage, motivate, and support progress. Whether a student requires help strengthening core skills, preparing for examinations, or overcoming barriers to learning, I work patiently and systematically to help them move forward with confidence.

I have extensive experience supporting students with special educational needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and I understand the importance of adapting lessons to suit different learning styles and personal circumstances. My approach combines clear explanations, encouragement, and realistic goal-setting to help students feel capable and successful.

Above all, I believe that academic achievement is built on confidence and self-belief. By creating a supportive and positive learning environment, I aim to help every student recognise their strengths, develop resilience, and reach their full potential.
